Home-Start Camden supports families with at least one child under five going through a difficult time. We do this by recruiting and training volunteers and then carefully match the volunteer with a family in need of support. Over time parents feel less isolated, more confidence in their parenting skills and more able to get out to use local services.
Volunteers are from all walks of life, each and every one a parent, grandparent or with parenting experience, all with a little free time available each week to help provide emotional and practical help to local families. Support is confidential, flexible and totally responsive to the family’s needs.
We are an early years support charity and in order to receive help from Home-Start Camden you must have at least one pre-school child in the family, live in the borough and be going through a difficult period. Volunteers visit families in their own home for three to four hours once a week.
Home-Start Camden is a local charity which has provided invaluable support and friendship to families in the Camden area since 1995 and has achieved positive outcomes for hundreds of families living in the community.
Home-Start Camden is affiliated to the national organisation, Home-Start UK, but we are autonomous and responsible for our own management and securing our own funding. Home-Start UK provides advice and support to over 300 Home-Start schemes around the UK and manages a stringent Quality Assurance review process to ensure schemes operates effectively.
Home-Start Camden is run by a Management Committee, which is responsible for governance and setting the direction of the scheme, and there are seven members of staff. Our network of trained volunteers visit families at home and help support around 125 families annually.
